Good morning Bayard. Brad here. Good to be back in the Blogosphere. It's another quiet day in office news.
Kathleen, Bill, Julie, and Dan^2 (Smart and Connors) are away.
Today is Election Day. I hope everyone takes a few minutes out of their day to visit the polls. Make your voice heard! ¡Viva la revolución!
I had intended to do another trivia question last Friday, but I was unexpectedly sent to North Carolina. As such, I'll do one today. Same rules as before: First person to e-mail me with the correct answer gets a mention in tomorrow's blog. And if you get the extra point question, your name will be in bold AND italics.
Q: What popular independent candidate challenged Democratic President Jimmy Carter and Republican California Governor Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election?
Extra point: What was his middle name? (Extra point clue: it's found on this blog post somewhere)
Thought for the Day: "The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites'." ~ Larry Hardiman

The mystery candidate is John Bayard Anderson, one of the last of the now-extinct species known as "liberal Republican."
The 1980 race was also the first time George H. W. Bush (the current prez's father) ran for president. During the primaries, Bush coined the now famous phrase "voodoo economics" to describe Reagan's massive tax cut plan (which is similar to what George Jr. is now doing). He somehow overcame his distaste of Reagan's plan and agreed to serve as Reagan's Vice President.
