Invitation From Julie
Hello everyone!
Starting next week on Thursday, August 2, I will be performing as the lead role of Rosalind in Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It in New London. It would be great to see you there! Here are the details:
What: The comedy As You Like It
By whom: William Shakespeare Performed by Flock Theatre (http://www.flocktheatre.org/)
When: August 2-5 (Thurs-Sun), August 8-12 (Wed-Sun), all at 7 p.m. WEATHER PERMITTING (it’s outdoors)
Where: Waterfront Park, behind Union Train Station, New London
What’s it about? Rosalind, daughter of a banished duke, flees from certain death into the Forest of Arden with her cousin Celia and disguises herself as a boy, which makes for much mischief among everyone she meets in the forest, particularly for Orlando, the man she loves. The setting of the show — not the language, of course — has been modernized, and we are making some modern and pop culture references (e.g. “The Simple Life” with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie).
Tickets: May be purchased at the show. $15 for adults; $12 students, seniors, and military; $10 kids under 12.
Also, Wednesdays and Thursdays are pay-what-you can nights. On those evenings, please bring a canned or boxed good for the food pantry of New London’s First Congregational Church.
Seating: First-come, first-serve. There is one small bleacher section, but mostly, and especially if you want to sit up front, which I recommend, you should bring chairs. It’s on the pier, so blankets probably aren’t the most comfy for sitting down for two hours.
Parking: There are parking garages near the train station, or else street parking.
Amenities: We will have a concessions stand selling snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, and T-shirts. There will be bathrooms of available (probably the portable kind; we’re not allowed to use the train station building, alas)
Very Important Info: The play takes place behind the train station, which means that weekday shows are noisy at times due to the passing trains. Do not feel shy about sitting in front!
Weekend shows — Sat, Sun — are much less noisy, with only a couple of trains coming by.
I encourage you to: Sit up front. Laugh as much as you wish. Let me know if you’re coming so I can be sure to say hi afterwards
For more info: www.flocktheatre.org 860-443-3119 or ask Julie. Thanks! I hope you can come! :)

Foreign Stamps
If you receive any mail with foreign postage stamps, please give them to Sue. She will forward them to Pat Kluepfel for a priest friend who can use them to raise money for his ministry overseas.

Thought for the Day
Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make sure that no one notices.
From “Ten Commandments for My Life” composed by Pope John XXIII
