Good afternoon on this rainy day (again).

Baby Update
Kassandra and the babies have been home for a few days. They are doing well and Rob hopes to bring them in for a visit before he returns to work. What a treat that will be.

Birthday Wishes
It’s been a busy week for birthdays. Today is Danielle’s birthday. Happy Birthday Danielle!!! Judy and Paul celebrated their birthdays on Tuesday. Neil’s birthday is tomorrow.

401k Meeting
There is a mandatory meeting for all employees on Wednesday, July 12 in the lunch room regarding the company 401k. One meeting is at 10 a.m. and the other is at 11 a.m. Please arrange with your supervisor to attend one of these meetings. All must attend whether you presently participate in the 401k plan or not.

Who’s In, Who’s Out
Kathleen is still in New York but should be in tomorrow. She and Bill will both be on vacation next week. Just a reminder that Tuesday the 4th is a holiday but Monday is a work day.

Please remember to occasionally check the corporate calendar. There’s a link on the blog.

I’m sorry not everyone is receiving email announcements when the blog is updated. It’s a glitch with Outlook that can’t be resolved.

Front Door
When exiting the building at the end of the day, please push the door closed to make sure it locks. Last night after hours someone entered the vestibule because the door wasn't latched.

Blog Error
Due to a permanent flaw with Microsoft Office 2003, some recipients haven't been receiving email announcements about the blog updates. They are: Kathie Silva, Kathleen, Kerry Weber, Maria, Mary Carol, Melanie, Michelle, Pam, Paul, Rob, Rosanne, Terry, Valerie. This group of people may want to occasionally check the blog directly.

Good Morning on this last official day of Spring!

Baby Photos
Two photos were given to me this week. Please bring in your photo soon so we can start the contest.

Kitchen
Please remember to wash your dirty dishes. They are still left in the sink and there is no one assigned this task. We should all be able to wash our own.

Who’s In, Who’s Out
Vikki Shepp is hosting meetings here this week with several sales reps. Valerie is at Creative Communications until Friday. Jack van Bemmel is here today doing editorial work for Mary Carol. Bill will be in tomorrow and Wednesday then he’s traveling again for a few days. David Baxendale will be in Thursday. Andrea will be out of the office Friday. She will be driving to Kase Printing in New Hampshire for a plant tour. Kase Printing is a new company we are considering to do some future printing for us like posters, fliers, catalogs, books. Their sales rep, Ellie Mariano, is located in Johnston, R.I.

Baby Photo
Just a reminder to bring in a baby photo of yourself. We’d like to post them up and have some fun guessing who they are.

Baby News
No baby news yet. We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of two precious angels. Please keep us posted Rob.

Time Cards
When filling out your time cards, all work hours must be allocated to work, sick, or vacation and must total 35 hours.

Recycled Paper
You’ve probably noticed by now that we’re using old renewal form paper in the large copy machine. I’ve also put a box by the fax machine near Paul for unwanted pages from the printer or fax machine. I cut them in half and use them for scrap paper. Feel free to add to it and help yourself.

Who’s In, Who’s Out
Next week Jean-Pierre, Vikki, and several other visitors will be here. Bill will be in next Wednesday.

Happy Father’s Day (especially to Rob!)
Father's Day, contrary to popular misconception, was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards. In fact when a “father’s day was first proposed there were no Father’s day cards!
The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. At about the same time in various towns and cities across American other people were beginning to celebrate a "father's day." In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
Have a great weekend. It supposed to be a warm one.

Good morning! Wow, what a beautiful morning it is out there.

23rd Email
The 23rd email still isn't working. So you may want to hold off sending email to this group of people as there will be delays. Charlene is working on getting it fixed asap.

Who's In, Who's Out
Dan Smart will be out Thursday and Friday this week. Bill is still in London.

Flag Day
Flag Day is observed in the United States on June 14 each year to commemorate the anniversary of the official adoption of the American flag by the Continental Congress in 1777.

Flag Trivia:
Q. Is it ever appropriate to fly the flag upside down?
A. Yes, but only in an emergency. It means “Help Me, I am in Trouble!”

Q. Who designed the first U.S. Flag?
A. It's not known for certain who designed the first U.S. flag, but it is likely that the flag was designed by Declaration of Independence signer Francis Hopkinson.

Good afternoon. Hope your week is going well. We like things lush and green but this rain is overstaying its welcome.

Refrigerators
Please mark any food items in the refrigerators you wish to keep as Cheryl will be cleaning them out Thursday (tomorrow) after work. She’s looking for someone to help her if anyone is interested.

Fax Machine
For some reason the fax machine near Paul is now printing a transmission report after each outgoing fax. I’m considering turning off this feature as it wastes paper. But if you find it helpful and like this extra page, let me know.

Dan Smart and Dan Connors have asked that the following be posted on the blog.

Last Friday, someone in the company printed material of an inappropriate nature to the HP 5Si laser printer in Paul's production area. We presume this was done unintentionally, but civil employment law and company policy both require us to take this seriously. The company needs to show that it does not condone or tolerate such behavior in our workplace.

It is very important that we not abuse the email and internet access provided by the company. This certainly means not clicking through to pornographic web sites on company computers but it also means not using the internet to shop or play games during work hours (using the internet on your lunch hour is a matter to take up with your manager).

Full information on Bayard's policies on this topic can be found in the Employee Handbook. For now we call your attention to the following key paragraph on page 20. Please check with your manager if you have questions.

“The Company is committed to providing an environment where the use of e-mail and the Internet are essential tools for employees. Employees are encouraged to use e-mail and the Internet. However, it is the responsibility of the employee to guarantee that these systems are solely used for proper and professional purposes.”

Moving Day
Just a reminder that tomorrow we will be moving several offices around. Hopefully it won’t be too distracting for everyone.

Let’s welcome Danielle!

Please join the Consumer Magazine Division in welcoming Danielle Drolet, who begins working for Bayard New London today. Danielle’s duties include writing public relations releases and fax promotional copy, improving our Web content and features, growing our community volunteer sales program, and managing our public service contests and campaigns. Danielle, a New England native, comes to us from the Taunton, Massachusetts, daily newspaper. Her editor is very sorry to lose her!

Danielle’s new title is Public Relations Associate. Please take a moment to stop by and welcome her to the team.

Kathleen

Good morning. Hope you had a good weekend in spite of the rain.

Kathleen has asked me to post the announcement about Dan S. and Dan C. here, even though we previously distributed paper copies.

June 2, 2006

To the team:

Bayard is pleased to announce the promotion of Dan Smart to Vice President and General Manager of 23rd Publications as well as the promotion of Dan Connors to Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of the Consumer Magazine Division.

We’d like to recognize the commitment, loyalty, and wealth of experience these employees bring to the job every day. Both Dans will work closely together to nurture the team atmosphere we’ve been building in our New London location. They will consult on personnel and operational issues as needed, encouraging a supportive and interactive environment that feeds our creative energies and promotes collegiality between the book and magazine divisions.

Also to the team:

We are announcing today a slight shift in office configuration, effective as soon as the moves are possible.
Valerie will move from her current office to the current “Bayard office,” allowing her to consolidate accounting functions at that end of the hall. In the future, when Louis Dominic or other Bayard workers are here, they will use a temporary cubicle.
Bill will be moving into the office vacated by Valerie, allowing him to be located nearer Bayard administration functions.
Dan Smart will move into the office vacated by Bill, allowing him a bit more space to hold meetings in his office.
Rosanne will move into the office vacated by Dan, allowing her to join 23rd team members at that end of the hall.
Christie will move into the office vacated by Rosanne, again, consolidating accounting functions.
The office vacated by Alison will be held for a yet-to-be-hired managing editor to serve the book, magazine, and curriculum departments of the 23rd division.
Meanwhile, Jack van Bemmel, known to some of us as a former editor at 23rd, will be in the building from time to time working on editorial projects with Mary Carol. Please welcome him back. He will occupy a cubicle in the editorial area occasionally.
And we have retained a local sales consultant, John Campbell, who lives in Madison, CT. John will cover metropolitan NY, CT, RI, and MA. From time to time, John will work in our building in a cubicle near the 23rd team.
When Nick and Vikki are here, they will continue to use the cubicles in the area near the 23rd team.
We are grateful for the cooperative spirit in which all of these shifts in office location were arranged.

Kathleen & Bill

New Employee
Welcome Danielle Drolet. Today is her first day working in public relations/editorial for Catholic Digest.

Baby Pool
If you haven’t done so already, please pay Kerry for the baby pool.

Kitchen Duties
Kitchen duties for the month of June have been distributed to the mail slots and posted in the kitchen. I’m looking for volunteers for people to occasionally make up the monthly schedule of duties. It takes less than an hour a month, so if you’re interested please let me know. Rosanne is no longer making up the schedule. Thanks Rosanne for doing such a great job all these months and for implementing a smooth scheduling procedure.

Who’s In, Who’s Out
Bill is in the UK and Parish for this week and next. Kathleen is in New York today. Please check the corporate calendar for more details.
